Chinese stocks closed mixed Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.23 percent, at 2,831.18 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.58 percent higher at 9,326.97 points.

Total turnover on the two stock exchanges stood at 366 billion yuan (about 54.9 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 415.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Over the week, the Shanghai stock index went up 3.06 percent despite lingering market uncertainties.

On Friday, liquor producers bucked the downward trend with strong performances. Shares of Anhui Gujing Distillery Company surged by the daily limit of 10 percent to end the day at 99.66 yuan.

The steel industry also outperformed in the afternoon session, with Fangda Special Steels up 5.46 percent to close at 11.4 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, was up 0.24 percent to close at 1,618.46 points Friday.
