ICBC Becomes One of the First Banks to Support UnionPay’s QR Code Payment

ICBC has recently become one of the first banks that support UnionPay’s QR payment. Cardholders may use ICBC’s mobile apps (ICBC Mobile or ICBC Link) to make UnionPay quick pass payment by scanning the QR code.

ICBC has built up extensive experience in QR payment. Since launching ICBC QR Code Payment in July 2016, the first pay-by-scanning product in the banking industry, ICBC has been focusing on small and micro payment by integrating the convenient and quick pay-by-scanning payment method in various scenarios including shopping, dining and entertainment. The payment network has covered arteries such as hotels, shopping malls, department stores, as well as capillaries such as convenience stores, gas stations and cafes. By now, ICBC’s QR Code Payment has been accepted by nearly 2.1 million merchants with over 17 million transactions.

According to experts, UnionPay’s efforts on QR code product mark the beginning of an era of communication and connectivity for China’s pay-by-scanning industry, which will create a more secure, convenient, and universal payment experience for cardholders and merchants, benefit consumption economy, improve the public consumption environment, and continue to enhance service for merchants and individual customers.
